Will Someone Stop the Bleeding? NYC Set to Burn Through BILLIONS Despite Attempts to Curb Spending
New York City is forking out an average of $387 per day to put up a single migrant household in taxpayer-funded shelters, the latest data from City Hall show.
The daily bill has slowly been dropping as the city desperately continues to try and slash asylum-seeker spending amid the ongoing crisis, with about 64,800 migrants in its care as of last week.
The $387 for February was down $5 from October 2023, when there were about 65,400 migrants in city care. The cumulative average began to go down steadily that month, hitting $391 in November, $390 in December and $388 in January.
City Hall has pegged the decline on cost-cutting measures implemented by Mayor Eric Adams’ administration to combat the crisis that’s forecast to set the Big Apple back $10 billion through next fiscal year. [Read here]
Talk about using a bucket to save a sinking ship. $387 per day sums up to $11,610 a month. There are a myriad of conclusion and analyses to draw from these insane figures. But, I’ll target one that I don’t see discussed as much: morale.
Now a standard joke among my friends is that we ought to burn our documents and head to the southern border for processing as a “migrant” to get a hold of some of that sweet welfare money.
What is the long-term effect on New Yorkers (and Americans at-large) seeing foreigners treated better than themselves? As a politically engaged person, it makes me angry. It makes me want to counter progressives who are destroying my city and country. But what about those who aren’t engaged in this way?
If morale was already at an all-time-low among the general public, this is certainly driving it down even lower. It falls on those of us who are aware and doing something about it to give hope to our peers. We need to outline a vision of what bold action can look like. Without that, less aware New Yorkers will not see a way out and will simply accept the decline as inevitable—and will vote as such.
There are few beacons of hope within the United States itself. A better model might be found in El Salvador and its incredible transformation. Within just four years, its president has ushered in a complete revolution, showing the kind of action required for genuine change. Are we as far gone as the Third World? No. But we’re headed there fast.
🥾Migrants kicked out of the shelter system aren’t leaving. Despite the attempts to downplay the crisis in New York by saying that the city is just a temporary stop for migrants before they settle in other parts of the county, the New York Post reported fewer than 2 percent are leaving after their 30-day shelter stay. With the insane slew of benefits acting as a magnet for these opportunists, why would they leave? Read here.
🚨How NYC Underreports Violent Crime. Forensic blogger Sam Antar incisively breaks down how city officials manipulate and cherry pick data to try to push the false narrative that New York is safe. Read here.
🤯An illegal immigrant, arrested 23 times, keeps attacking hospital workers. After less than a year in jail, 57-year-old Edward Johnson is allegedly repeating his attacks on hospital workers. A Bronx nurse recently assaulted spoke to Fox News. Watch here.
